Alternative Augmented Reality Approaches: Concepts, Techniques and
Applications, EUROGRAPHICS 2003, Granada Spain
Feedback from Participants:
"This tutorial presented material beyond what most people currently use.
May be worth considering for the future."
"With this tutorial I have learned about new ways of augmenting the
environment. This was a great tutorial."
"Good introductory level, given glimpses of detail, but staying at
higher abstraction level to maintain audience interest."
"Bimber probably went a little overboard in his own enthusiasm for the
(granted interesting) work they do. Had too much stuff to tell and
became stressed by time running out."
"Interesting, but could do with seeing some of the projection techniques
for real if possible."
"The idea of web page with slides and other material is more useful than
just having handouts or tutorial notes."
"Good blend of general material and examples. It could have been
complemented by a live demo …"
Statement of the Course Chair:
"As one of the Courses Chairs for that event I am able to report that
this course was very well received, and was also one of the
most popular topics. We collected feedback from the audience and both
Oliver and Ramesh
were given high scores for presentation, for their A/V materials, and
for the notes they provided
for participants. Example quotes from participants included: “With this
tutorial I have learnt
about new ways of augmenting the environment”, “This was a great
tutorial”, and “Good
introductory level, given glimpses of detail, but staying at a higher
abstraction level to maintain
audience interest”. I dropped by during their presentation and can
confirm from my own
impression that the course was both interesting and well delivered.
It seems to me that AR is still a hot topic, and I’m sure both Oliver
and Ramesh will update
their materials to present new results. I would have no hesitation in
considering this tutorial
again for a future Eurographics event. But actually, it’s somebody
else’s job to decide this year!
If you need more information in making a decision, please feel free to
email me."
